Aerostar established a new record with one of their Thunderhead balloons being aloft for 200 days and counting.
Mission HBAL676 launched on March 28 from the firm's winter Lodge in Santa Fe County, is still floating 60 kft above the Pacific Ocean.
The previous record was 156 days aloft.
Yesterday, October 9th, Aerostar performed another launch of a Thunderhead balloon.
On a first for the company, the balloon was launched from the Beecroft Weapons Range in New South Wales, Australia.
The site is administered by the Australian Defence Force for use as a live-firing range.

Impressive image of an #Aerostar #Thunderhead balloon at float altitude.
The vehicle took part in the Stratospheric Optical Link Demonstration (SOLD) project carried out by the Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Pacific and NASA.
SOLD's goal is to research optical communications in the stratosphere and demonstrate the requisite capabilities for establishing these optical links, all while addressing the challenges of operating in the stratospheric environment.
Finally, with not enough room to maneuver before crossing into the Cuban airspace (which is not allowed to enter), Aerostar decided to terminate the flight of #Thunderhead #HBAL653 right at the border of the Bahamas.
Currently, the balloon is plummeting to the Caribbean Sea.
New localization of #Aerostar #Thunderhead balloon #HBAL653 about 300 nautic miles off the coast of Portugal.
One of the closest approaches to European territory that one of these balloons has ever made.
So far it has been in flight 43 days.
A very rare sight, an Aerostar Thunderhead balloon floating 59.000 ft above the North Atlantic appeared briefly today on the ADS-B network while flying north of the Azores Islands.
The balloon was launched on Aug. 15 from Hurley (SD).
With the advance of tropical storm #Hilary over California, Aerostar Intl. withdrew to the mainland the two #Thunderhead balloons that had been operating some 300 miles from the coast over the Pacific Ocean. They are the sole survivors of the five launched from Daggett-Barstow Airport in early August.
#HBAL649 is still in flight moving NW and entering Nevada while yesterday, #HBAL648 finally landed in Temblor Range, 65 km West of Bakersfield after being airborne for over 14 days.
"I was alone and it was late and my vinyl was playing creepy messages."
I was in the mood to read today and I made progress on #Thunderhead by Neal Shusterman which I am #reading with a friend and started #TressOfTheEmeraldSea by #BrandonSanderson, the first of the four secret novels being released this year. I received my digital copy but am still waiting for my physical one from the Kickstarter. I can't wait until it arrives and I can place it on my bookshelf!
Bon, ben du coup, je me remets à écouter Gun Club. C'est toute mon adolescence ça (avec Noir Désir et les Pixies) !
Je passais déjà pour un mec avec des goûts bizarres à l'époque :D
