Thorsten Zöller
@ploum Thanks for sharing, I didn't know about calendar.txt.

I had been looking for quite some time for a suitable #plaintext calendar in the past. With respect to programs, I used "Remind" for a while (on-and-off over the years), but it offers way too many features for me, while at the same time I could not get it to do certain things I wanted it to do. Then, there is the standard Unix "calendar" program, but that is a bit too simplistic.

One alternative, then, is to use a simple text file as a calendar, where each entry is entered manually instead of being automatically generated by some program - like calendar.txt.

I have actually used a similar (although even simpler) format for a text-file-based calendar in the last couple of months after I had read about it in some pretty old article which I cannot find any more, but the calendar.txt format looks better indeed.

(1/2)

Michael Gisiger :mastodon:
“Plain text is cross-platform by default, working seamlessly across Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android. It also doesn’t lock you into one particular vendor since the files are readable with any text editor. The real trick isn’t even in the text files, but how you structure them. Once I started treating my notes like a lightweight filesystem, I got the flexibility of a database but without the overhead.“

https://www.xda-developers.com/replaced-note-taking-apps-with-plain-text-stack/

#pkm #PlainText

Robert Kingett
It is my forever belief that all the people that hate email have zero clue on how to use email. For instance, for me? I stopped subscribing to newsletters and moved everything to RSS feeds.

I now use email strictly for communication. I move things into folders based on what kind of email it is. if I wanna keep something in the message, I copy it to a plain text file, with a note at the top when I got the email, who the sender was, and more. I copy full signatures when I want to save an email to a text file because then I'll never have to remember contact information again.

Lastly, I stopped reading email in HTML view. It's all plain text for me. No crap tables anymore, no nothing.

I made email great again!

#Email #PlainText

Santiago
