is it too late to join the #pipewire party? i hope not, or else my #flx1 will be sad
all applications that use pipewire can finally utilize the camera (adding to our list of v4l, qtmultimedia and android apps)
one issue we are facing is that aperture is not very happy with the back cameras, so applications like #GNOME snapshot or authenticator will have the preview flipped. captured frames are surprisingly not flipped tho:

In order to run Ardour on Linux you do NOT need the following things:
- JACK
- PipeWire
- PulseAudio
Use Linux' native drivers called ALSA and off you go.
P.S. You can't watch YouTube anymore when using ALSA with Ardour. Never watched YouTube on my guitar so personally I don't mind.

More exciting news coming up! @collabora is organising a #PipeWire #hackfest on Friday, May 16th, 2025 in Nice, as part of the Embedded Recipes conference workshops.
This is your chance to meet fellow PipeWire developers face-to-face and participate in direct discussions about the future of PipeWire.
Interested? Please add your name and any discussion topics to our wiki page, or reach out to me directly to be added.
I've got audio working on MuseScore4 + Void Linux! A little summary of what I did (for myself and anyone else on #linux needing #MuseScore 4)
I first switched to #pipewire. For me, this involved uninstalling #pulseaudio and jack, then installing the packages `pipewire alsa-pipewire`. This differs on other distros. I needed to verify that pipewire was starting up properly. Since I didn't have a login manager, I had to set the XDG_RUNTIME_DIR variable manually and also create that directory everytime I booted. Using `tmp` instead of `run` worked better for me.
Then I followed these steps: https://docs.voidlinux.org/config/media/pipewire.html#alsa-integration to get #alsa integration going. Restart, then that's it!
MuseScore now has audio
today in #fedora qa:
* finished up investigating https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2355207 , turns out to be #pipewire 's fault
* updated some #openqa needles for failed #rawhide / 42 tests
* got oauth2 authentication working on staging openqa, this was a bit of a trek but I got there...filed https://github.com/os-autoinst/openQA/pull/6335 along the way, not sure it's entirely correct
#linuxAudio desperation right now...
I've fired up #Carla (the great Synth-Plugin-Stacking and connecting and routing thingie by @falktx@mastodon.falktx.com - thanks pal for this amazing piece of software!) to prepare for my next stage appearance and suddenly my 6th Midi knob (CC6) is not recognized anymore...
Damn. Also in my Carla Layouts all Midi connections are gone. Same controller, different USB port, still same story. Can reconnect anything, but this takes time.
After connecting anything in my saved "stage" layout CC6 wont work (as it doesn't at a new empty setup). And damn I need all 8 poties at my MPK mini.
All this worked 4 days ago when I last tried it.
So... what to do: As the hacker head I am I simply compiled Carla from Git. Newest freshest Carla. Nope. Saved Layouts defective, CC6 not recognized (tried LV2 and VST3 native Linux plugins).
Works with Renoise, it is not the hardware.
WHY?
Hmmm... Both, my Renoise and Carla too work over Jack but Jack is provided by Pipewire... So Pipewire shouldn't be the problem (but is Midi even running over Jack in Renoise? - I honestly don't know).
Err, looking into my Pacman logs (the package system for Arch).
Oh. Carla was last updated in 10/2024 (v.2.5.9) - my Git compile not counting. So I didn't catch that bug in my last system update; Carla is fine, else I would suffer since October 2024.
But you know what was updated 3 days ago? Pipewire!
From 1.2.7 to 1.4.1. Why did they skip 1.3.x? Was there a problem already? There is definitely now.
Since #Pipewire 1.4.1 I cannot use CC6 in Carla anymore.
Ahhhhhhhhrrrrggg!!!

Can you help me with wireplumber? From time to time new streams start up muted or with the volume turned down some random amount. I'd like to fix that. But... how?
I've been staring at wireplumber's configuration and docs for some considerble time now, but... Much of it doesn't seem related to routing audio, at least not at first sight. Isn't wireplumber the component whose pirmary purpose is to set up routes?
What should I even look at? I'd like to define that any new stream gets 100% stream volume, and be routed to bluetooth, if present, or system otherwise. How hard can it be?
Wow, on my Debian Trixie/Sid system sound now sometimes sounds completely distorted at random times while listening to music with Rhythmbox while browsing the web with Firefox. I did an upgrade of @pipewire from 1.4.0 to 1.4.1 yesterday. Somebody else seeing this?
Did you know that #PipeWire implements #Bluetooth #LEAudio on top of #BlueZ and #Linux?
While there are still rough edges, PipeWire today supports BAP, VCP, device sets, and even #Auracast broadcasting!
Have you tried LE Audio yet?

A little bad luck with #debian trixie lately... #pipewire kept a single core at 100% so I needed to disable midi support in #wireplumber
