Live-cell labeling sheds light on how our DNA is packed and behaves in cells

Live-cell labeling sheds light on how our DNA is packed and behaves in cells
(04 Apr) We have the first video of a plant cell wall being built
Plant cells without a cell wall are fragile, so it’s hard to image its construction.

Welcome to the new edition of #nakeddiefriday everyone. The guest today is the famous ESP8266EX by Espressif, a SoC loved by many in the electronics world.
Unfortunately, the digital section is fully covered by two topmost metal layers carrying power. We do have a glorious analog/RF section though.

Wonderful discovery for #protists #independentresearch #microscopy #microbiology folks. Check out a new zine called "Amoeba Discovery":
https://stefanluketa.com/amoeba-discovery/
I never thought very much about protists/amoebas, and reading this volume was a fascinating introduction to what seems to be an understudied field.
Now I'm wondering how I might isolate and sequence some interesting samples!
Alright, let's get the #nakeddiefriday going.
Today's exhibit is AR9281 by Atheros, a very classic Wi-Fi chip found in many devices. Comes in very pink hues. A short thread with highlights follows.

It's such a pleasure to work with great equipment. Askania SMT4 microscope, Leica Flexacam C5, Robin's tools pixelpump, SIS Licht Maschinenleuchte. PCB by AISLER.

(more tomorrow but I am 2eepy4this, goodnight internet creatures)
A thought I've had a few times lately: my current setup is far from sufficient for this, but in the future I think it might be fun to try livestreaming a bit of microscopy. Would anyone actually wanna watch such a thing?
I'm not saying it would happen anytime soon (or ever), but I may start looking into what upgrades it would take to make a livestream feasible if there's any interest. Poll below if you think that sounds neat ig
and as a thank you for reading this whole thing, check the replies for a low-quality cystidia pic
Hello and welcome to this week's installment of #nakeddiefriday !
The guest of today is the TIBPAL16R4 by TI, a programmable array logic chip made with bipolar logic. The die has 2 metal layers, its maskwork produced in 1985. A short thread follows.

We had our very first practical school at the Centre for Organismal Studies at @uniheidelberg !
This was a hands-on volume EM and sample preparation course with several theoretical lectures.

Here is a short write up about the event by @abilgk

We spent 4 days in this spot and found a micromonster - videos.trom.tf/w/hww8YgbSA9mHL…
Cirat was such a wonderful place to be in. Close to the mountains and having access to all facilities we needed, made us stay there for 4 days. We just did not want to leave....
Travelling with samples always stresses me the heck out. Taking some thin sections abroad for a workshop, has anyone ever had a problem with taking them in carry on? Irrationally afraid security will question the glass.
How do other microscopists / photmicrographers cope with the prospect of wading through almost a years backlog of collected images and video, approx 250GB of HDD space or a quarter of the whole HDD - to decide what to keep and what to delete. Any Advice?

AND I found my second tardigrade ever just before class started today! How’s that for luck. #microscopy #sciart
Another microscope mystery for you today. I suspect this one might be quite easy for some. #microscopy
I'll post the solution tomorrow at the same time.
Hey hey, you thought there be no #nakeddiefriday today? Here we go!
Today's entry is an Infineon/Siemens SAB-C167CR-LM, a microcontroller based on the C166 core. The die is in pleasant-looking pastel colours. :-) The die has pin 1 in top left corner. I'll do a short thread.
Many thanks to @debauer for supplying the samples!

If there is only one short film you see this week, it should be this one:
A Body Called Life.
Thank you, James Weiss and Spencer MacDonald.
