man7.org is an invaluable resource for Linux users, providing comprehensive and up-to-date man pages with clear, detailed explanations of commands and system tools. It’s a must-visit for anyone working in the terminal, and the effort put in by the curator is truly appreciated. A huge thank you for keeping this gem running!

Ah yes, the pinnacle of modern computing: a man page that can't even load without #javascript and #cookies. Because clearly, reading documentation should feel like a trip to a sketchy website
. If only our forebears of UNIX could see us now, reveling in the endless potential of... waiting for a second-rate web page to load. Truly, progress at its finest.

In 2024, the Linux kernel was at risk of losing Alejandro Colomar, who’s been maintaining the man-pages project for the last four years. Thank you Adfinis, Google, Hudson River Trading, Meta, and Red Hat for sponsoring Alex's work for the next 12 months!
@Laukidh @0xabad1dea Exactly!
In the end, everyone from 1st level to instructor is just looking up #InstantAnswers on #ServerFault / #StackOverflow via #DuckDuckGo and/or reading #manpages and #documentation all the time.

If #manpages and #documentation were good, we'd not need #StackOverflow butbthat's not the case so here we are...
TIL: Firefox has a cool feature where you can open man or info pages directly in the browser! Just type 'man:<page>' or 'info:<page>'. Give it a try with 'man:ls'!

Thank you to all the developers who also produce complete manpages that don't require reference to websites that may some day become defunct. Our lives are richer for your efforts.
oh you got to be kidding me. You'd think that installing `man-db` would automatically replace the placeholder `man` command, but apparently it leaves it in place, and installs the actual command as `man.REAL`, which you then have to explicitly use dpkg to replace /usr/bin/man with /usr/bin/man.REAL.

@Aissen @ariadne I found the systemd docs quite nice to read once you get the hang of
their lingo/structuring.
However I think #manpages are not enough. Despite what I thought in the past I quite like the info manuals these days.
Just the multi page html version of them isn't as nice to read. A central documentation system outside of manpages
would be a nice thing, just reading html documentation in a browser is not that useful.
So kann man natürlich auch einen Vortrag beginnen. Eine kleine Leibesübung im höchst amüsanten #Vortrag zum eher trockenen Thema: #Manpages.
