The ABC is in urgent need of fundamental reform. Hopefully the Greens can use this as a precondition for lending support to the next Lab minority govt.
"And the rot clearly starts at the top.
During the 20 years of French and American wars in Vietnam, 63 journalists were killed. Over the seven years of World War II, 67 journalists were killed. In just 18 months, Israel has murdered 209 journalists. This is a journalist murderfest more grotesquely deliberate than any other conflict in history.
So how can the Chair of Australia’s public broadcaster swear life-long allegiance to a regime systematically murdering journalists and perpetually lying about its genocide?"

Last week, Christopher Baxter, the editor of @SpotlightPA, a nonprofit local newsroom in Pennsylvania, made a post on LinkedIn that started: “I recently had lunch with a staunch, pro-Trump Republican and highly successful business leader, and his views on local news changed my own.” In the post, Baxter went on to explain that nonprofit newsrooms' focus on pro-democracy language might not be serving them well. Intrigued, NiemanLab's Sophie Culpepper gave Baxter a call to find out more.
@Nonilex #LindellTV (AKA "the My Pillow guy's Youtube channel") is now in the Whitehouse press pool even as the Associated Press is still banned and boy do they ask some hard hitting questions.

Casi 200 periodistas han muerto en la actual guerra de #Gaza. Reporteros sin Fronteras ha documentado los casos y culpa al ejército israelí de la mayoría de ellos. Latest ASM Researchers blog post is about two new research articles in the bibliography:

Both of these academic studies focus on the movement of people from Twitter to systems like Mastodon. One focuses on journalists, the other focuses on the different moral values of both networks.
FUTURENEWS: Fox rebrands as Trump News. No word yet on what its tag phrase will be but All The News That's Fit To Stink, comes to mind. #journalism
OMG, with #Trump’s new White House #PressPool policy, where he gets to pick who is in it instead of the White House Correspondents’ Assn who used to decide which reporters rotated through the pool, the questions he is taking are literally beginning with revolting flattery.
Not one asked about #SignalGate
“Is legacy media dead?” asks @parkermolloy for @damemagazine. She looks at how, with newspaper owners interfering in the work of their reporters, independent media sources are the ones holding power to account. “What independent journalism offers that legacy media increasingly doesn’t is transparency about where it’s coming from. There’s no pretense of objectivity that masks institutional biases and billionaire influence,” she writes. “Readers know what they’re getting, which paradoxically can build more trust than false neutrality.”

It’s #NewstodonFriday once again, and as always, we have a great selection of stories from independent newsrooms. This week’s highlights include @ProPublica’s story about a DJ turned white supremacist influencer, @parkermolloy writing for @damemagazine about the death of legacy media, and @bolts’s @taniel on —yikes — another round of U.S. elections. Please check out these stories and all the others in this thread, comment, like, follow their accounts and give them your money.

"The decision is a disturbing and self-defeating retreat for American influence abroad. It also portends ever more troubling repression of independent journalism right here in the United States.
"To best appreciate what is at stake in a future without VOA, it is important to understand its past. "
I’ll gladly support the independent sellers that make up 60% of Amazon’s sales the DAY THAT AMAZON DOESN’T MAKE A DIME ON THOSE SALES.
Don’t try to snow us, you fascist fuck.
