Lunedì mi sono recato a Ramallah con Alex Levac per incontrare #KhalidaJarrar, un membro del Consiglio legislativo palestinese che era stata liberata quella notte come parte dell'accordo sugli ostaggi.

Eravamo andati a #Hebron per coprire un'altra storia e all'ingresso abbiamo trovato un enorme ingorgo. Pensavamo fosse una coincidenza.

In another act of retribution for the start of the Gaza ceasefire IDF forces have restricted movement within the West Bank over the last 24 hours.

Civilians on the ground say this is the largest restriction in movement in recent memory.

These internal military checkpoints restrict freedom of movement between the cities of Ramallah, Hebron, Qalqilya, Salfit & Bethlehem.

B’Tselem documented 25 testimonies detailing this abuse, which included beatings, threats of rape, and psychological torture. Many of these attacks occurred publicly and were even filmed and shared by the perpetrators.

Shiri Davidovitch, a researcher at B'Tselem, argues that this violence is not only a product of the daily realities of occupation but is also fueled by a societal climate in #Israel shaped by the October 2024 war. The lack of critical media coverage of the conflict in #Gaza and the emphasis on a simplistic notion of “victory” has created a societal thirst for vengeance, dehumanizing Palestinians and normalizing violence against them. This dehumanization is evident in the casual brutality documented in #Hebron and the widespread sharing of violent imagery online.

Davidovitch concludes that as long as Israeli society continues to dehumanize Palestinians and prioritize a narrative of revenge, such abuses will continue.

⟦ Negli ultimi mesi, gli investigatori di #BTselem hanno raccolto 25 testimonianze di palestinesi che hanno subito gravi violenze, fino a vere e proprie torture, da parte dei soldati nel centro di #Hebron.

Molti dei testimoni hanno raccontato che i soldati li hanno sorpresi mentre andavano al lavoro o a fare la spesa.

Dopo essere stati ammanettati e bendati, sono stati portati in una “pilbox” (torre di guardia), in una base militare o in un posto di blocco nelle vicinanze, dove sono stati sottoposti a torture fisiche e psicologiche per ore.

La maggior parte delle vittime è stata picchiata duramente, alcune sono state minacciate di stupro e ad altre è stato detto che sarebbero morte.2
