I figured a lot of mappers will create maps about recent wars and conflicts so I decided to create a map about #WorldWarI and see if #Wikidata is a good enough source for its battles, conflicts, and military operations.
I also wanted to know if there are any open data sources for historical borders, and I found one, CShapes! https://icr.ethz.ch/data/cshapes/

My present from @ladymondegreen now that I've finished Volume 1. Volume 1 covers 1878 through 1914; this one covers late June through late July.
The Battle of Jutland Memorial contains all those that were killed in action or died of wounds at the battle (31 May to 1 June 1916). A total of 6109 names are included with 1071 photographs.
It is hoped that this will prove to be a useful resource for those with an interest in genealogy generally or who are specifically researching their family trees.

For 4 centuries, occupation was NOT an issue
End of WWI finally brought independence to Arabs (WWII for Palestinians), but they turned that #independence into #grievance against #Jewish presence in #MiddleEast

Thinking of my Grandfather today on #VeteransDay. Fred Nutty (1897 - 1973), served on the Western Front as a Royal Flying Corp radio operator during WWI
Many young men from #Dublin and #Ireland served in the British Army during the #GreatWar. Of the 200,000 Irish who served, 30,00 lost their lives
Fred’s brother, Bill Nutty, survived but returned with PTSD. Their 20 YOL English first cousin, William James Nutty, perished at Ypres
