I think I already asked something similar a few weeks back, but isn't there a public site where I can fetch #Copernicus GLO-30 #DEM files with a simple http client anymore? I used to use `wget` for this, then it was AWS CLI, and now it seems I have to set it up with a user/pass/key/secret_key?

I remember cloning the whole mapzen repo when it was on peril of disappearing, should I have done the same with data that's supposed to be public? Has anyone done that already?

Done mapping all 40 #barangays of Luna, La Union, #Philippines 🇵🇭 in #OpenStreetMap, creating their #Wikidata items, and linking the two with each other.

A huge thanks to JR Dizon of the Luna Municipal Planning and Development Office for the boundary data. 🙏

#OpenStreetMap #GISChat question: Our county has very high quality (3-inch resolution) aerial imagery: lio.danecounty.gov/services/fl The main way they make it available is through an #ArcGIS web portal: dcimapapps.countyofdane.com/dc but you can also download GeoTIFFs.

This would be an amazing data source for OpenStreetMap if the licensing allowed for it. Has anyone had success in getting permission to use similar datasets for OSM from a gov agency? Any email templates to ask for it?

I am toying with the idea to build a (physical) globe 🌍 myself. Preferably using #QGIS and maybe Inkscape for final touches (or other OS tools).

I would like to design the globe as far as possible in QGIS and then use an appropriate projection to output the lobes. Then glue to a sphere using wallpaper glue etc. - I imagine it difficult to get the labels right.

Surprisingly, I can find few resources on how to approach such a project.

Any pointers or own experience?
