There has been a LOT of human job losses due to #I in the #GameDevelopment industry. Good to see folks taking a stand!

Pay rises, AI regulation, and layoff protection: what #ActivisionBlizzard's newly unionised employees want from #Microsoft

A big development.

By Connor Makar, Published on Aug. 22, 2025

Excerpt: "[Scott Alsworth from the #UK's #IWGB Union] credits the increase in #unionisation efforts to several factors: #TechnologicalDisplacement (especially poignant with the push for #AI), a greater number of #WorkingClass people joining the video game industry who bring a greater awareness of unionisation, and a response to the state of the industry as a whole."

"When we have 100s of games releasing on Steam constantly - why am I going to pick one where the developers aren't even doing a lot of the work? From artwork to story text - why am I going to play or read it if it's just made by a machine, what's the point? "

An interesting question for everyone who makes a game! Registering a trademark for a game name if the name is a very trivial and simple word, is it realistic? I understand that there are different options (words, pictures), that you can create text as logo + add some elements for this word, but is it possible to make a trademark out of a word only for the direction "video games"?

Heard from someone today that they were playing one of my RPG's and really enjoying it.

That really made my day!

(And I kinda needed it, too, due to some depressing discussions we were having at my day job today.)

Sometimes as a hobbyist/indie game developer, you don't really get a lot of traction or feedback for your games, which can be a little demoralizing.

So it's heartening to hear when your work actually had a positive impact on someone!
