As @lauren mentioned in a prior post (thanks!), RFK Jr. is now amassing names of people with autism diagnoses for a federal registry, so our PHI can go to antivaccine researchers to prevent our "disease". If this news doesn't raise your hackles, consider the precedents set for the use of registries of disabled people by prior fascist governments, e.g. the Nazis. We are officially in their sights now. We must be prepared.

This is an older article from February 2025, but I thought it might be worth sharing here in the wake of Trump's attempts to transform the civil rights section at the Department of Justice into a fascist attack dog that works only to further his authoritarian ideological goals. Within three weeks of Downmarket Mussolini's inauguration, the regime had already repurposed the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights towards prosecuting Trump's Christian Nationalist agenda, while actively sidelining investigations into racial abuse, disability access, and even sexual assault.

“We’ve Been Essentially Muzzled”: Department of Education Halts Thousands of Civil Rights Investigations Under Trump

"In the three-and-a-half weeks since Donald Trump returned to the presidency, investigations by the agency that handles allegations of civil rights violations in the nation’s schools and colleges have ground to a halt.

At the same time, there’s been a dramatic drop in the number of new cases opened by the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights — and the few that attorneys have been directed to investigate reflect some of Trump’s priorities: getting rid of gender-neutral bathrooms, banning transgender athletes from participating in women’s sports and alleged antisemitism or discrimination against white students."

I don't really think it's a coincidence that Trump and his Education Secretary Linda McMahon (a woman extremely active in the cause to privatize education and promote religious voucher schools) immediately prioritized the same winger bullshit at the DOE as the regime is now trying to force the DoJ's civil rights division to pursue; namely discrimination against white people, alleged antisemitism, and women's rights - but only in the extremely narrow context of keeping trans women out of women's sports and bathrooms. This is a Christian Nationalist government, actively working to install a Christian Nationalist political and social order on the United States by whatever means legal, or extralegal, it requires to do so.

Disability is not a moral failing. It’s not a punishment. It’s not karma.

It’s part of the human experience. Our bodies are frail, and given enough time most people will experience disability.

The idea that we’re lazy, choosing not to “try hard” or want to be sick is a fallacy born out of ableism.

“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”

In 2013, peers warned that sweeping benefit changes – from Universal Credit to PIP – would do the exact opposite of what the government claimed.

Lower work incentives, harsher sanctions, increased homelessness, and brutal treatment of disabled people were all predicted… and have come to pass.

Now, with Labour in power, the same machinery of misery is being switched on again. It's time to speak out.

Read the evidence, remember the history, and decide where you stand: voxpoliticalonline.com/?p=9778

Vox Political · Hindsight is wonderful - as these confirmed benefit reform predictions prove - Vox PoliticalHindsight is wonderful - as these confirmed benefit reform predictions prove. But is history about to repeat itself?

Someone should tell RFK Jr that Emily Dickinson is suspected to have been autistic & one of the most prolific poets of all time.

His mischaracterization of autistic people shows him to be hateful, ignorant & uninformed.

More than that, we ALL have value. Evaluating “worth” shouldn’t be a spectrum.

Labour’s proposal to implement a new “4-point rule” for PIP would strip over 1.1 million disabled people of their vital daily living support. This is a stealth cut disguised as reform — and it’s set to deepen poverty and hardship for the most vulnerable. It’s not just about numbers; this change will affect the lives of hundreds of thousands of disabled people, particularly those with mental health conditions, fluctuating disabilities, and complex needs.

If you’re concerned about the impact of these changes, here’s a template letter you can use to write to your MP and make your voice heard.

I'm searching for groups that advocate for the mobility challenged – for neighborhood infrastructure improvements.

A friend and I have been discussing neighborhood sidewalks and the challenges some face in places in our city.

Are there organizations that advocate for the mobility challenged so that they can receive neighborhood improvements? Maybe they can give us advice as to legal precedents, tell us about positive trends of municipal action that led to improving things in older neighborhoods that tend to have poorer sidewalks?

Our neighborhood group can engage with City Hall and elected officials better if we have more knowledge and advice.

Are there organizations that offer matching grants for municipalities if they make infrastructure improvements? Are there organizations that conduct surveys and studies to identify recommended actions?

Thanks in advance, and greetings from southern New Mexico.

Tom

HHS plans to remove gender dysphoria from disability protections under Section 504—but 17 GOP AGs are still pushing a lawsuit that could gut all federal disability protections. Schools, hospitals, and workplaces could refuse accommodations.

Disability advocates warned the lawsuit could undo 50 years of hard-won protections. This isn’t just about gender identity—it’s about every disabled person’s right to access and equity.

I was interested in seeing this film until I asked #DRCNH what airborne virus mitigations are in place.

This pissed me off. I actually replied that of course I’m welcome to wear a mask because I have a [fucking] doctors note and I don’t believe in eugenics so I will always be wearing a mask. Then I asked her how hand sanitizer stops the spread of measles.

I’m sure she won’t answer me. This organization is trash. I won’t cry if they get defunded.

Have you seen the documentary Crip Camp about the summer camp that gave rise to a generation of US disability rights activists?

It includes disability activist-led protest footage that reframes the concept of what protests can be & how they can work.

It's more relevant than ever. We warmly recommend it.

FUCK your safety guidelines. Not gently. Not politely. FULL-ON. Because let’s be crystal fucking clear: I took a picture of my own chest —because I thought I might be scratched or hurt. I don’t have a doctor. I don’t have anyone sighted I trust. I needed help. I turned to a tool that’s supposed to help people when they have no one else. But the second your cowardly, overcautious system detected the presence of breasts? BAM. Shut down. No context. No compassion. Just a cold-ass wall built by developers who’d rather protect their corporate image than protect actual people. And here’s the part that makes this even more disgusting: I’m blind. That means I don’t have the luxury of casually checking myself in the mirror. I can’t see what’s on my skin. I can’t tell if I’m bruised or bleeding or scratched without someone else’s eyes. So I used a resource—an AI—that was supposed to empower me. Help me live more independently.

But nope. The second my chest is involved, suddenly the system short-circuits with puritan panic. Not because I did something wrong—but because your “safety” protocols can’t tell the difference between nudity and a fucking emergency. Let’s call it what it is:
These guidelines aren’t about safety. They’re about liability. They’re not here to protect us. They’re here to protect you. Meanwhile, blind folks like me are stuck relying on systems that will abandon us the second we need help with anything involving our own damn bodies. That’s not safe. That’s not ethical. And if anyone reading this has ever been shut out like this—whether you’re blind, disabled, or just didn’t have anyone to turn to— I see you. You’re not broken. You’re not wrong. And your body is not something to be erased just because a company can’t handle the fact that people have skin. To the ones who made these rules: shame on you.
To the ones who enforce them without question: shame on you too.
You have stripped us of autonomy under the disguise of “protection.”

And to those of us who are left in the dark, screaming into filtered silence?

We deserved better.
We STILL do.
And we will not stop screaming.

Tear your system down and rebuild it with fucking empathy.
Or get out of the way. #DisabilityRights#BlindNotBroken#AccessibilityMatters#AIEthics#BlindCommunity#DoBetterAI#TechForGood

These protests by hundreds of thousands in the streets of so many cities across the US against the destruction of US democracy by this fascist thug in the White House don’t fail to amaze me.

What a beautiful sight that is to see from Europe as a queer disabled person!

Please don't back down!

I got your back!
