The “De” In “#Decentralization” Stands For “#Democracy” - https://www.techdirt.com/2025/04/17/the-de-in-decentralization-stands-for-democracy/ "It’s about fostering a society where democratic values permeate everything we do, where power flows from the many rather than the few, and where the tools we use reflect our deepest democratic aspirations."
Update 17 April
We’re just one day away from our deadline for project submission in the Impossible Futures (IF) Challenge (building apps for Autonomi). So, last chance to get involved or share with anyone in your network.
For those already accepted, we are setting up an IF channel in the next couple of days with information on what happens next.

ActivityPub: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
ActivityPub is the best protocol available for interoperable federated social media—primarily because no other current federated protocols target social media, offer interoperability, and aren't deprecated.https://chrastecky.dev/technology/activity-pub-the-good-the-bad-and-the-ugly
If it's one thing is clear, it's that the #republicans and #Trump sees the #left as a threat - and that's the upsell. The only thing between them and their #autocracy is the #collectivist movement.
#Decentralization is a threat to their paradigms and they know it. #Hegemony dies under #global #equality - their power with it.
For them it's now or never, because the #RaceToTheBottom would eventually yield #SocietalCollapse. But the #US could wake up to the truth.
I'm looking for some insight on why it's NOT a good idea to build next #decentralized project on #ATproto (#BlueSky) and stick to #ActivityPub?
By quickly glancing through the ATP docs, it seems like a much more pleasant experience to work with over AP but there's probably more to it than just the technical part.
Can anyone #help me understand any atproto downsides?
“You’re telling me that seeing has a cost?”
“No one wants to believe it, but yeah. Collective awareness is finite. Too much load, and the System starts dropping frames."

Hey there!
Here are some interesting events happening this week:
- Wed 4/9, London: Algorave @ Corsica Studios (https://www.corsicastudios.com/algorave-apr-9)
- Fri 4/10, online: Imagining Possible Futures (https://www.eventbrite.com/e/dair-presents-imagining-possible-futures-tickets-1295350711849), by @DAIR
- Sun 4/13, Vancouver: coFood x DWeb Garden Kickoff! Work Party & Potluck https://lu.ma/jp988fpb)
I created an #X account because I wanted to have more reach for my crowdfunding campaign(https://cr8r.gg/@farooqkz/114295543059522709). But then I greatly regretted my registration on the platform.
The problem's not just that it recommends these people on the top. The problem's also that it requires following at least 1. But it doesn't provide search feature in this window so I can easily find the one I want to follow myself. The only way is scrolling.
I was never more confident that decentralization advocates, including cash and messenger, must have decentralized platforms such as Fediverse and Mastodon as their primary channel.
Hello! I have started a flipstarter crowdfunding campaign to launch a #Persian website to promote and teach Bitcoin Cash.
The website is currently here:

The flipstarter is here and I have explained everything in details:

Reposts appreciated.
Today I got into a heated debate about #centralization and #capitalism with a good friend of mine which is an industrial engineer. As you can imagine, as an industrial engineer he was praising centralization and how it's better for the economy, and I as a software engineer was debating how everything should be moving to a sustainable degree of #decentralization, and how the world is moving toward this as people are getting weary of injustice and monopoly.
As successful examples of decentralization, I named some crypto currencies and their ecosystem, #mastodon, #lemmy, #matrix, and explained to him how everything isn't about the economy and more money, that a more fair and sustainably decentralized world will lead to higher mean wealth and better lives.
He understood my points and I think I convinced him on the benefits of decentralization which felt good.
But "sustainable decentralization" is the keyword here. We should think quantumly on a spectrum between centralization and decentralization.

An interesting article about https://cosocial.ca/ by @timbray - If you're interested in running community services, you should read it.
They take Canadian paying customers only (50 Can$), got 200 ppl after 2y and will hire their first paid employee soon.
Shameless plug:
https://info.graz.social is also providing paid memberships which supports efforts to educate the masses about #Fediverse and #decentralization for people in and around #Graz (and I'm part of @wir). Meet us at #GLT25 on April 26: https://www.linuxtage.at/en/
Consider a membership or a donation to your team of choice that runs a #communityservice!
After some hiatus, @Jami is back on #Flathub, an easy way to have it on any Linux distro. If you miss the #p2p days of Skype, Jami is here - https://jami.net/jami-vs-skype-welcome-to-where-your-privacy-matters/ #GNU, #FOSS, #Decentralization, #DistributedSystems
Make no mistake: #ProtectEU is an overreach that can't be justified when held up to the standard of the #decentralization principle.
Imagine starting a post office, but instead of it being illegal to unseal envelopes, you instead have an assembly line of police that opens each letter and makes notes.
Could you imagine? If the US and the EU get their way, that's what we'll get.

#opensource #decentralization
"Turns out what drives and sustains #decentralizedsocialmedia is not hype, but a sense of #community and the possibility to have some real #agency in one’s social media experience. This #decentralization and sense of community allows #Fediverse to survive even if individual instances disappear."
I said it before on Mastodon. I'm reposting this again. Comparing #DeltaChat and #Matrix together, if you want hassle free and consistent messenger for private #E2EE chats, don't go for Matrix. DeltaChat is way better.
However, if you want something like a public forum, or a public chatroom, don't go for DeltaChat. Matrix is way better suited for that. And DeltaChat does not support public groups at all. In DeltaChat groups, there is no admin or moderator and everyone have got permission to remove or add the others.
I think I have to write a longer post on my personal blog about these two, comparing them together.
PS: Another Matrix encryption bug few minutes ago triggered repost of this.
