Tja werte #CDUCSUkorrupt, #FDPseudoliberal und #SPDbeton: Vielleicht war der Kuschelkurs und die Zugeständnisse auf die polemischen Forderungen von #Bauernverband und Co. sowie der #fossilLobby doch nicht der richtige Weg? Vielleicht liegen die Ursachen einfach tiefer (wie #Umweltverbände und andere gewarnt hatten), und:
▶️ ein ständiger Konkurrenzkampf und zunehmende Exportorientierung zu internationalen Märkten führen in die Sackgasse?
▶️ vielleicht ist immer größer/schneller/weiter doch kein Garant für mehr Wert, sondern treibt Preise für Lebensmittel und Einkommen nach unten?
▶️ vielleicht wäre es mal geboten, die Grundlagen für Landwirtschaft e.g. #Boden #Luft #Biodiversität zu bewahren und deren Zustand zu verbessern, anstatt entsprechende Regeln als vermeintliche Hemmnisse zu #framen und immer weiter zu schleifen?!

Add another #solar panel company — “9Tech” — to the list that can #recycle upwards 99% of solar panels materials AND without releasing harmful gases or chemicals!

9Tech’s #recycling plant aims to recycle 800 panels per day or ~275k - 290k panels/yr.

9Tech joins other companies — like Solarcycle & We Recycle Solar — who also recycle 95-99% of solar panel materials. Solarcycle aims to use recycled materials for new solar panels: true #circularity.

As I've suggested in the followers-only toots above, there's a lot of room for richer discourse on meat consumption if we consider what an appropriate middle-ground would look like.

Next I'm going to move on to explore middle-ground ideas on #circularity applied to older electronics, #retrotech, and energy consumption.

How to make "circular" darayaki? An illustration with cats! 1. A car pees next to green wheat. 2. The wheat matures and gives nice golden ears thanks to the nutrients present in the urine (and the sun); a ninja-cat reaps them. 3. A cat grinds the wheat into flour under the watchful eye of a small kitten. 4. The kitten (and the other cats, even though we don't see them) eat the darayaki made with the flour. 5. In comparison, the current "standard" system is much more complicated: another illustration with cats! 1. First one needs to extract nitrogen from the air (N2) to make synthetic fertilizer in big factories. 2. Cats equipped with protective gear then apply the fertilizer on the fields. 3. To eat, cats go buy kibbles (if you feel like some of your cash goes missing it's probably your cat taking it to buy extra kibble) 4. The cat goes to the toilet and flushes their deed down the drain (some do!) 5. The excreta end up in a wastewater treatment plant that requires a lot of energy to try and eliminate most of the nutrients (notably by sending nitrogen back to the atmosphere as N2, despite the fact that we paid dearly to extract it in the first place) and limit the pollution of the water it's sending back to the river. Note that, in that system, flushes directly compete with agriculture and drinkable water consumption, hence the horrified look of the cat in the middle when water starts running out during the drought in summer. One can also notice the absurdity of this linear system where one pays twice: at the beginning (in energy and fossil resources) to extract nitrogen from the atmosphere and at the end, to do the opposite (send it back to the atmosphere), paying again both in energy and fossil resources in the wastewater treatment plants.

Kaupunkiverstas was Helsinki City Library's Urban Workshop in Lasipalatsi, a pilot library testbed for participatory processes, community engagement and digital fabrication, for the Oodi flagship library that opened in 2018.
