I did not expect to ever read Captain America. I DEFINITELY did not expect a Captain America story to be affirming and positive and a little sweary.

☝️ This was written in 2015. And yet it some how hits just right at this moment.

➡️ (Captain America, who is white) “nobody dies of the flu and I can’t get arrested for marrying a black person.”

🍌 Gros Michel callout for no reason?

If you're doomscrolling, 10/10 recommend reading that instead. Anti-doom-reading!

Spoiler: Captain America is supposed to be the Perfect American. An author actually did a good job at that characterization. No sarcasm, no irony. Really.

Captain America: Brave New World (2025), dir. Julius Onah.

It isn't superb, innovative, or memorable, but it is consistent with the fun expected of superhero movies. The best part is the expectation for a new group of Avengers in the following films.

Half the film is spent tying loose ends in the MCU. Besides the not-great plot, Anthony Mackie and Harrison Ford are naturally charismatic. Compared to Marvel's latest deliveries, it's a step forward.

I always publicly call for the head of my former employer's CEO to roll.

Nope, I just cannot see why you weren't invited to the big party, Rob.

If it was me, I might #STFU about #Marvel #MCU #CaptainAmerica Kevin Feige while my characters are on the menu for further film development.

I saw #CaptainAmerica Brave New World last night. It could be summarised as "America elects another horrible President". It felt like it was supposed to come out before the election though its message was watered down considerably in the end and ended up being confused and contradictory.
With Trump elected some of it came off as kind of inappropriate. At one point early on, the Captain declares cheerily, "No matter who's President, we're going to the White House!" (They're invited to an official function there)

The movie has the same odd pacing as most of the other newer #MCU movies and the lighting felt too dark and slightly washed out (that might be due to 3D, though). Overall, I liked it but it could have been deeper and more coherent. The air fights are pretty awesome if a bit ridiculous.

If you haven't watched "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier" you'll probably be a bit confused. I recommend watching it in any case because it's a much deeper take on Cap being Black, racism and the relationship between Cap and the state.
