Hope all my #BSD friends have a great time in Zagreb, Croatia at #EuroBSDcon 2025!
This announcement is a few months old, but #GNOME 49 is now placing stronger dependencies on #systemd.
This means distros that don't support systemd, including the BSDs, will need to incorporate work-arounds. The post also outlines what would be necessary to make that happen.

I will continue my journey in Julia an awsome programming language, which I have extensive tweet series that I still need to convert to the fediverse format.
I tweeted as I studied blocks of the language. I love the structure of Julia

EuroBSDCon starts tomorrow!
Packing done, slides ready - see you in Zagreb!
@devwithzachary Look forward to watching it a bit later :) For your next PPC Mac video it would be great if you included #NetBSD or #OpenBSD too, there are not a huge number of PowerPC Mac #BSD videos on YouTube so more are always appreciated :)

This is 91/100 post for the #100DaysToOffload challenge.
You may not be aware, but bzip2 is a patent-free version of bzip 0.21, written by the same developer.
bzip used arithmetic coding which was patented by IBM at the time (1980s-1990s). To avoid lawsuits, it was replaced with Huffman coding, thus the name change to bzip2. However, this also broke backwards compatibility with bzip.

FreeBSD 16.0 snapshot ISO images are now live!
While FreeBSD 15.0 has reached its third alpha stage, the upcoming version of FreeBSD that will succeed 15.0, version 16.0, now has the live images available for download as of yesterday. This provides a way for developers and testers to be able to test the newest FreeBSD version in development, v16.0.
FreeBSD 16.0 is anticipated to bring in many changes to the base system and packages, such as general improvements and bug fixes. This version can now be downloaded under 16.0-CURRENT ISO images, which can be found here:
Download FreeBSD 16.0 testingBe aware that the images provided above are based on a snapshot of the latest development branch, which is not guaranteed to be stable.
As usual, the 16.0-CURRENT version can be installed either using the bootonly variant, which is a network installer, or the disc1 variant, which includes the base FreeBSD system.
There is currently no release schedule for this version of FreeBSD, but, based on the last two releases and their release schedules, we expect that FreeBSD 16.0 goes globally available on November 2027.
