PC Neuinstallation.

#Arch #Archlinux

#FreeBSD #Linux #ArchLinux

I remember when I started messing around with Linux, it all seemed so hard and Arch Linux was the big bad bogeyman.

Now, years later, I use Arch Linux as my daily driver, and I am starting to learn FreeBSD. Curiously, I don't find FreeBSD to be as intimidating as Arch Linux seemed to be wayback then. However, it is a beast I want to tame. I am getting my ass kicked at every twist and turn. 🤣

PSA: Go 1.24 broke dockerd, so if you use a distro that already rebuilt Docker with Go 1.24 (at least Arch), dockerd may segfault when pulling images (the Docker CLI then just says "unexpected EOF"). For additional fun, after docker.service gets restarted by systemd, the previously running containers don't restart, regardless of their setting.

On Arch, downgrading to Docker 27.5.1 avoids the issue.

Any other #Arch #ArchLinux users having Steam segfault after updating packages? My Steam is now segfaulting, I've tried reinstalling Steam to no avail, running steam --reset, and deleting my .local/share/Steam and .steam files. Flatpak Steam works, but Flatpak Steam doesn't use mesa-tkg-git or NVK and it's defaulting to my Intel CPU's iGPU.

My laptop can boot either #Manjaro Linux or #EndeavourOS, both #ArchLinux derivatives and both patched reasonably recently (within the last week). Manjaro has a 6.12.19-1-MANJARO kernel with the Plasma desktop, and EndeavourOS has a 6.13.7-arch1-1 kernel with the Cinnamon desktop. Both have the power profile set to Balanced.

Steam + the new NVMe 2TB is functional, mounted a new file system XFS under $HOME/games and added to steam as storage to use and download stuffs and use it as main. So far so good, only downloading stuff not playing, altho I did a test on my Steam Deck where most if not all my games I use to play were functional under SteamOS (Arch Linux base)

Nothing of this is rocker science, but is for to share, if someone wonder how hard is gaming on Linux
