Hey #WritingCommunity Did you know that there exists an organisation called Bookshare that makes books accessible for people who have whatever problems to read the written word? I have learned about them from @Fragglemuppet and donated my epub to them.
(They are permitted to do what they are doing by U.S. copyright law because they only make the files available in accessible formats for people who fall under the ADA, but of course, if you donate your files you got a higher chance of bringing your writing to their brains)

Welche Rolle spielen Formen von solidarischer #okonomie Was wären konkrete sinnvolle Schritte hier in Frankfurt?

Reading the Style Guide is boring. How about listening to a live discussion? As an experiment, I used Google NobebookML to create such a discussion for three topics from the Programming Practices chapter of Ada’s style guide. The 17 minutes of discussion included

Visibility

Exception usage

Erroneous execution and bounded errors

I added the slides myself. I think it turned out very interesting.

What do you think of this format?

A Texas lawsuit including 17 red States is attempting to remove Section 504, a critical disability protection

“It prohibits discrimination based on disability in programs & activities that receive federal funding”

If successful this will be a major blow to disabled rights, accessibility & autonomy

The lawsuit appears to be rooted in transphobia as well, using it as a way to target trans AND disabled people at the same time.

Crooks and Liars · DoJ Waives ADA Regulations 'To Help With Cost Of Living'By Susie Madrak

Guidelines about accommodating people with disabilities are being scrubbed from the Justice departments website in an effort to … reduce the cost of groceries.

Once again disabled people are targeted because the government assumes no one will speak up for us.

Speak up. We need you.

Spoiler alert… this will not actually lower the cost of groceries. It will lower the quality of life for people like me though!

Does the Department of Justice issue exemptions from mask requirements? (2021)

Are there resources available that help explain my rights as an employee with a disability during the COVID-19 pandemic? (2021)

Can a hospital or medical facility exclude all “visitors” even where, due to a patient’s disability, the patient needs help from a family member, companion, or aide in order to equally access care? (2021)

Breaking news regarding changes to the #ADA

Source: "US Department of Justice
From the press release: "The Justice Department today announced that it is taking action in response to President Trump’s Presidential Memorandum “Delivering Emergency Price Relief for American Families and Defeating the Cost-of-Living Crisis.” First, the Department is withdrawing 11 pieces of guidance to streamline Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance resources for American businesses. Next, the Department is raising awareness about tax incentives for businesses related to their compliance with the ADA.

"The Jan. 20 Presidential Memorandum described the regulatory demands put in place by the prior administration and called on the heads of all executive departments and agencies to take appropriate actions to lower the cost of living throughout the country. Today’s withdrawal of 11 pieces of unnecessary and outdated guidance will aid businesses in complying with the ADA by eliminating unnecessary review and focusing only on current ADA guidance. Avoiding confusion and reducing the time spent understanding compliance may allow businesses to deliver price relief to consumers."
