VirtualBox 7.1.8 Released | @linuxiac
「 One of the most significant fixes addresses an issue where the virtual machine clock occasionally went backward under rare circumstances. Moreover, the GUI has been refined by correcting a glitch involving accelerated cursor images, thus offering a much smoother visual experience. Major enhancements have also been made to how the application handles saved and restored states. 」

It's been a while since I've run VMs locally, what is the best option in 2025 for a Windows 10/11 PC?
Is VMware Player/Workstation even a viable option after the Broadcom acquisition and them selling off their EUC department to Omnissa?

There are a couple of systems I really want to be able to emulate in the future. One of them is iOS 6 (or any version prior to this) I have been looking for years for a disk image or installer, but have never found one. It was my favorite mobile operating system.
New blog post!
In which I talk in detail how I deployed Nextcloud locally in my homelab using LXD and NextcloudPi.
I go through the whole process of setting up LXD, importing the NCP image, installing, configuring, and scheduling backups for my own personal cloud.

This VM is running with a NATted NIC, and legacy DOS TCP/IP LANMAN drivers do not display the DHCP info - So I can't see what IP address the VM is getting, and Trumpet Winsock needs that information. Handily, there is a DHCP.PRM binary file that gets created with the info in it, but there's no actual user tool as part of LANMAN to read it. So... Using only what I have on this VM, I write my own parser!
I had totally forgotten that VirtualBox doesn't come with guest DOS network drivers. So off we go to try and find some that work... (see my previous post about Internet Bit Rot).
