The All Points East festival was great and I had a fantastic time. The Decemberists were every bit as good as I hoped they’d be. I was less enamoured with Death Cab for Cutie/The Postal Service, who were headlining, but other people seemed to be enjoying them. I think it was more that I wasn’t happy about the press of the crowd and my back and feet were hurting due to standing for a long while. Next time I’ll stay well back where I can sit and fully appreciate the music.

Tomorrow, I head to #Pittsburgh to check two #BucketList bands off the list. I'll be seeing #ThePostalService and #DeathCabForCutie.

Better yet, I'll be getting to share it with Oldest Spawn.

I have to get to the city without a panic attack. If I can do that, all should be well.

I'll also be getting my first #PrimantiBros sandwich, which my sister says is a must-have.

"The first episode of Song Exploder, about The Postal Service song “The District Sleeps Alone Tonight,” came out 10 years ago, in January 2014. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the podcast, we’re doing what bands do, and putting out a deluxe, expanded edition of our very first release: this version features a new interview, new insights, and new pieces of the song and demo."

Death Cab for Cutie, “Kintsugi” 2015

Man, am I having trouble with this end of the alphabet. (Just when I thought I'd be able to start at the beginning again, I see our host and facilitator @MarkIngs has plagued us with one hashtag starting at Z for 2024. The nerve!)

So I went with the visual again, picking this one for its zigzag cover art. I’m not deeply knowledgeable about #DeathCabForCutie
but I regard it as #BenGibbard’s project at this point. Gibbard continues to mine the #IndieRock vein, somehow managing to sound fresh and cut through the glut of bells, whistles, and gizmos (with no slight meant to
his #glitch #electronic project, #ThePostalService, itself a lean affair) available to our ears, seasoning earnest songs and basic instrumentation with unexpected tempos and bits of ear candy. My favorite track on this one is probably “You’ve Haunted Me All My Life” because it’s, well…haunting.
