Neofeud is a brilliant ride.
Video games can not only be a vessel to escape reality, but can also force players to confront
and engage with reality, and this is what Neofeud does.
There is some text-heavy criticism of this game, but | personally really enjoyed this approach. I
found the gameplay to be a satisfying combination of demonstration and commentary , and
while the commentary was heavier, it was so immersive and thought out that | am glad it was
not cut down. | laughed at times and felt immensely infuriated at times, given the parallels of
injustice in our world highlighted by the game creator. This is the kind of storytelling and world-
building richness | crave in games. Neofeud explored the depths that makes up our capitalist
reality and | found the game to be a multidimensional representation of Marx's Das Kapital. It
iis received as a labor of love, one that speaks to the cultural references of our generation.
Logistic-gameplay-wise, | appreciate the length of the game given how heavy some of the
world-building and material was. At times the inventory/environment interface was challenging
to navigate as you had to hover your mouse over the right spot in order to trigger a clickable
action, but it wasn't insurmountable. I enjoyed the puzzles; however, there were a few that
were too easy in that the player could click down a list to eliminate all wrong answers until they
landed on the correct one. Overall, | found the puzzles to make sense in the story progressio

pros:

* Impressive delivery for a mostly one-person team

+ Buying this game supports indie devs

* The soundtrack SLAPS

* A solid attempt at a true punk homage to pre-existing dystopian hellworlds, both real and

imagined

* Fix up your busted cyber-arm, unravel conspiracies, straight up electrocute your enemies

General comments:

+ Voice acting can be cheesy, edgy, and/or effective, depends on your personal tastes (1 likec

it; if you don't, there's a setting to tum it off)

+ Art assets aren't always razor sharp, but they can be absolutely stunning (1 loved it)

+ Gameplay is reliable, minimum jank in a few scenes (also loved this)

+ Commentary on real-life social issues is more heavy-handed than other games in the Cop

Detective genre, for example, Disco Elysium (definitely liked it)

+ Overall delivery is more realistic/messy/personal/genuine than other games in the Cop

Detective genre, for example, Detroit: Become Human (F+** D*vid C*ge Imac)

TLDR

If you liked Disco Elysium and are interested in something more blunt and rougher around the

‘edges, sometimes to great aesthetic effect, you'll probably like Neofeud. Excited to see what
