blessing to a new born

the "fujenti" (runners in neapolitan) are faithful of the Madonna dell'Arco who parade through the streets of Campania carrying banners with sacred images, followed by musical bands.
In this photo the banners/flags are placed over a newborn baby, to offer the painted saints' blessing.

St Naum is buried in the church of the Monastery of St Naum, in Ohrid, North Macadonia. Naum was a disciple of Saints Cyril and Methodius, and played a role in developing the Cyrillic and Glagolitic alphabets. He founded the monastery - on the shores of the beautiful Lake Ohrid - in 905 and died there in 910. A local legend claims that if you place your ear on his tomb, you will hear the saint's heart beating, over 1000 years after his death. It has been suggested this drumbeat is the result of local geological phenomena. #saints #folklore #history #gothic #weird #churches #death
