I think they're a bit cliche. I mean, they can be done to good effect, but I prefer closing a scene, in and of itself, so that ideally it sets up the next scene. I try not to overuse them, though, because they can get exhausting.</p><p>This is a timely question, given a review (for book two) I got last night. The tagline reads, "Cliff hanger from hell."</p><p>They're...not wrong. 😅 At least they rated it 5-stars!</p>

Which are meant for jumps between time or POV. Complete thoughts.</p><p>I do use them a chapter endings. I write a serial, it's traditional. But don't alway end on a clieffhanger. Even cliffhanger ends on culminating moment, not just randomly.</p><p>Volumes end on completion moments but with obvious dangling issues.
