🤜 Microsoft mulls more job cuts, this time focused on managers and non-coders, not just low performers, sources say

「 Charlie Bell, Microsoft's security boss, brought this concept from Amazon, where he was a cloud pioneer. There, it's called the "builder ratio," and tracks the ratio of software engineers to "non-builders," such as program managers and project managers 」

Business Insider · Microsoft mulls job cuts focused on managers and non-coders: sourcesBy Ashley Stewart

I think #Microsoft have given themselves enough rope with #Recall. For Reasons, running anything like it would be flat out, no discussion, illegal in my org. As #CISO I’m sensitive to such things… :)

Sure we run a MSFT shop, and sure they theoretically have access to all that data anyhow - can’t [viably yet] process ciphertext, they see all the cleartext at some point.

The rope part is that argument. If MSFT argues that they see all data *anyway* so why not Recall, they burst our collective hallucination that various #GDPR agreements are actually worth a damn [Narrator: They’re not].

And then, my #infosec friends, I get to eject Microsoft - and coincidentally all other #US #cloud services as well as collateral damage - and finally build a full scale Linux/FOSS environment.

It’ll be more fun than I can #recall!

EU should demand Microsoft to give users a choice, as a mandatory Microsoft account to be able to use your hardware is another trick to lock in users, like the preinstalled browser and other bloatware.

PS Don't tell me the average buyer should use Linux unless you are willing to help them install as long as it is not preinstalled in the store.

Pinta 3.0 was just released. This version just made the minimum requirement of the .NET framework version 8.0.

The .NET Framework is a software framework created by Microsoft for building applications for Windows operating systems. It provides a platform for developing web applications, desktop applications, and other types of software.

"In March, Amazon announced that it would use AI to help farmers in Aragon, #Spain use water more efficiently."

“These datacentres use water that comes from northern Aragon, where I am,” [Farmer Chechu Sánchez] said. “They consume water – where do they take it from? They take it from you, of course.”

Comment résister aux #GAFAM ? (et arrêter de détruire la planète)

video.blast-info.fr/w/pjCFUDHq

@GossiTheDog Bright side: now I get more calls from clients who pay me to turn this crap off for them. Every time #Microsoft further enshittifies #Windows with more bloatware, spyware, or slopware, I get a spike in requests to uninstall or disable it, and it becomes my primary service request for the next week or two.

Hint, for software developing companies: If people pay for the absence of a feature, then it isn’t a feature. And if your competitor continues anti-consensually imposing such misfeatures on your customer, you have the opportunity to offer a marked competitive advantage by simply not doing that.

Treat consent regarding your customers’ computers the same way anyone deserving to live outside a cage treats consent regarding others’ bodies, and you can take business away from those who are actively contemptuous of consent.

Serious question, probably for #infosec peeps, and adjacents:

Are companies developing AUP for #AI #GenAI or #LLM use? Methinks that this should be a thing.

I mean. From #Microsoft cramming #Copilot down everyone's throat (which I *presume* could be disabled in AD policy. I don't know for sure.) to giving one of these LLMs info they shouldn't know about.

I think there should be an AUP for this. Fire away!
