Mercury, final prompt for #printerSolstice2425, made me think of #alchemy. It is an element the alchemists favoured & felt was fundamental in their efforts to transmute base into precious metals, both in western & Chinese alchemy (from whence western alchemy emerged).
This is my #linocut portrait of an #alchemist known as Master Geng (before ~975, 耿先生; Gěng Xiānshēng, sometimes Kêng Hsien-shêng).

Happy birthday to chemist William Henry Perkin (1838-1907)! This #lino block print ‘William Henry Perkin Discovers Mauve’ is about how the British chemist & entrepreneur made the serendipitous discovery of the 1st synthetic organic dye: mauveine.
Perkins entered the Royal College of Chemistry in London in 1853 when he was only 15, studying with August Wilhelm von Hofmann. 1/n

with its provincial bird the Atlantic puffin and flower the purple pitcher plant cover the hand-carved map of The Rock (and Labrador). The block was inked ‘à la poupée’ (with different colours, black, orange, lime and burgundy, in different areas) and printed by hand on lovely Japanese kozo (or mulberry) paper.

I thought that whenever I don’t have specific art to share, it’s time to post art about Canada. FOR REASONS.
I thought I would start, like Confederation, in PEI. The symbols of Prince Edward Island, its provincial bird, the blue jay and its tree, the red oak cover the hand-carved map of PEI in this linocut. 1/n
I'm still not sure why I felt compelled to try #linocut in the first place, or what I'm going to do with them (I mean, these aren't really salable quality?). But my weird brain is satisfied for now. 
Third time’s the charm! I’m still learning to read the ink on the block, but I feel good about my progress.

Le jour où j'avais pris la photo qui m'a inspiré cette illustration, il y avait de la neige partout. Elle attendait sûrement que je remette des graines à la mangeoire!

I’ve just put five recently editioned works up on my website — this linocut included: ‘Firmament: the fourth day’. A large piece for me, the sheet measuring 43 x 38 cm. Only three prints in the edition. The other pieces are all monotypes and as such are one-off prints.
