My thermostat is on a cold wall, and I need it to turn on and off based on other room temperatures, not the wall temperature at the thermostat. (Can't move it since I'm renting.)

Ross of OttawaThis is the little 2channel <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/zigbee" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#zigbee</a> monitor I'm using. Looks like lots of people using something similar. It has two current sensor clamps, so it's nicely non invasive. Not wild about it using 120V power as a battery or an adapter would prob be safer, but I've put the thing in a utility box to keep the 120V supply lines safely covered.Can sense up to 80A of current<a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/HomeAssistant" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#HomeAssistant</a>

I should at least be able to monitor current and power effectively while the official Quirk code is finalized. Ross of OttawaLearning more than I'd hoped was necessary about the <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/HomeAssistant" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#HomeAssistant</a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/zigbee" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#zigbee</a> device handling.There are python add-ons called "Quirks" that let devices add sensor entities after the fact for ZHA and Z2m. I've got a 2-channel power sensor I'm trying to add and it seems to be on the bleeding edge of supported devices. I see dev work going on, so might be the easiest path forward is to wait a few weeks.But hey, I learned about Quirks today, so that's a new corner of HA for me.

There's a path of least resistance with home assistant, and I will take that road. Hassos is a tiny bit too opinionated (the supervisor is nice but it can be opaque) but smart people maintain it for one and one purpose only, which is to ruh home assistant. And by golly, I will abide! 😎

Dennis Hwang<a href="https://chaos.social/@rixx" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@rixx</a> I use Grocy, which you can get running on top of <a href="https://hwang.me.uk/tags/HomeAssistant" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#HomeAssistant</a>, but maybe that’s not really what you want 😂It does support assigning tasks to different people and there are a couple of custom components that make setting it up on a dashboard relatively straightforward. I find it kind of glitchy at times though, particularly when it comes to adding data.

AndrewAn impulse purchase on AliExpress and I have a Zigbee Moes Universal smart IR remote control. Integrated quickly into <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/HomeAssistant" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#HomeAssistant</a> via Zigbee2MQTT and you can capture codes as well as send them, IR transmission seems good at sending to awkward receivers.Unfortunately I didn't think about the fan I wanted to control which only has power toggle and increase/decrease commands and there's no way to send a definitive On at speed 3 but it will probably come in handy at some point.

rixxHow do y’all handle recurring tasks re: home maintenance? I’m usually on top of weekly-ish chores, but things that occur only every couple of months or yearly are kinda rough – like changing filters, cleaning appliances like freezer/dishwasher/washing machine, washing curtains, cleaning baseboards, etc.I’m already in the <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/homeassistant" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#homeassistant</a> ecosystem, but none of the solutions for recurring tasks there sparked joy (and neither did running a full extra CRM as some people apparently do xD)

nirik :fedora: :redhat:Got one of my ductless heat pumps cleaned and added to HA. Was a super tight fit for the little esp... there was not at all much room around where the connector was. ;( Sadly, it doesn't seem to report power usage/input. It does however have a bunch of other things (current temp, desired temp, mode, fan mode, stage, submode)Now that I know where the connector is will need to do the other unit.
