Another snap from Sunday's stroll round Ardmaddy, this time looking at the varied #geology.

Cutting through the centre, an igneous intrusion of the Mull Dyke Swarm; basalt & microgabbro, from 66 - 23.03 mya.
At the top of the slope, the Lorn Lava Plateau Formation; andesite & basalt, 423.6 - 393.3 mya.
In the foreground, forming the modern beach, the Easdale Slate Formation; Pelite, graphitic; metamorphic rock, formed 1,000 - 541 mya.

A rocky shore in Argyll, Scotland, with rocks varying in age from the comparatively recent - 22,000,000 years old - to the quite old - 1,000,000,000 years. There's also an example of a raised beach, caused by isostatic rebound from the last ice age - c. 12,000 years ago.
