#LunchtimeReading : enjoying a 2000 AD catch-up, and advance peek at this week's Prog 2421, which also marks a remarkable 48 years since The Galaxy's Greatest Comic launched.

And yes, I've been reading it right from the very start. Young me back then would blow his little mind if he knew when he grew up he'd get to chair some of those creators in talks, much less go have a pint with them afterwards

Oh yeah, thanks cat for waking me up. I was dreaming I was in a shop looking at a small magazine that was a mixture of 2000AD and C64 news, with great illustrations and Judge Dredd stories. I was about to buy it when your meowing woke me up.

Now she's purring and being adorable. ❤️

On a festive Christmas trawl through the loft, I stumbled on the first copy of the #comic #2000AD that I ever bought. We were on holiday in Scotland in August 1990, and I was bored...

I was instantly hooked. While Saddam was invading Kuwait and Partners in Kryme were bustin' up the charts with "Turtle Power", I was devouring every detail of the Necropolis story, and plotting ways that I could find out what the hell was going on in it.

I'd go on to buy 2000AD on and off for the next 35 years!

I'm a 2000 AD fan. Have been since the days of the Apocalypse War and Block Mania. But life is busy and currently I am about 1 1/2 years behind. I still subscribe though. It's good to binge every now and then and I am currently just catching up on Sinister Dexter and Azimuth. What a great story! Once I'm caught up I am going to turn to the recent (ish) Rogue Trooper.
Is the movie still in the works?

Sorting out some comic files and I was reminded of this gem from the early days of 2000AD, cashing in on the popularity of The Six Million Dollar Man and James Bond, along with a wide fascination with computers which had acquired near-mystical status in popular culture. The spy with the worst name has the codename with the worst acronym! John Probe is M.A.C.H. 1 – Man Activated by Compu-puncture Hyperpower!

After months of having electrical needles stuck in him and a computer circuit printed on his skull, Probe becomes basically superhuman and is sent off to deal with terrorists, foreign leaders and so forth, usually by giving them a damn good thrashing until they die. The body count in this one is pretty high, confirmed by the computer in his head that keeps assessing the likelihood of his opponents having survived whatever Probe just did to them.

The 70s, man. Don't listen to the naysayers, as a decade it had its moments.
