If you don't do TDD, at least make sure your tests FAIL when the inputs/outputs are wrong. It's so easy to write tests that "always" pass and think you have a solid testsuite...

It is still the funniest thing in the world to me that Windows went from 8 to 10 because of a 15-year-old coding shortcut; programmers matched the OS name against "windows 9*", which caught Windows 95 and Windows 98, when they were handling compatibility issues with 95/98/NT/ME/XP, and Windows 9 would have matched those compatibility checks.
"block and tackle" is, in my opinion, the most inscrutable business-speak term.
Here is what I think it might mean:
* focus on executing fundamentals / basics
* dividing and conquering
* finding efficiencies in daily work to make it easier to do more with less (the way a block and tackle makes lifting heavy weights easier)
