Food for thought for folks looking to redirect their twitter communities to the fediverse, in light of references to mastodon getting people banned:

When Freenode imploded, was one of the later projects to leave (we were waiting for the matrix bridge), so we knew that links to libera.chat in the topic would probably get taken down.

So instead we set the topic to something like "The Sandstorm community no longer uses this channel; see sandstorm.io/community for how to get in touch."

...and now I'm noticing that we have a twitter account on there and no fediverse stuff. Hmm.

@zenhack It's plausible we should set up a #brand account, but we haven't been blogging recently and so haven't needed one. I'd be kinda partial to a Sandstorm community instance at some point even...

@zenhack I guess the other question is, without a default namespace for them... what instance would it make sense to set up a Sandstorm project feed on in lieu of having it's own instance? Maybe Fosstodon?

@zenhack This is great for individual accounts but doesn't work with things like Fedifinder for people trying to quickly rebuild their entire networks. Certainly better than nothing, and I'm sure it could work well for high-profile Twitter users, but I feel like it may not work as well for a lot of people

@jfred @zenhack Unfortunately, the later people start to move, the harder this transition will be. Even Fedifinder depends on people you follow not having outright deleted their Twitter accounts, which many people now have done.

@jfred Yeah, definitely not a panacea, I just thought of it and figured it might be useful to someone.

@zenhack It's amazing how Andrew Lee style this has started to go now!
