It's surprisingly easy in 2018 to ship a MUD! The frameworks are out there! So today I'm wondering whether there is a fun use case for a MUD that is either
- only available on a particular local network or
- only available as an Onion service

Holy cow, there already exists at least one public Onion service expressly for telnetting into, and it's an official Wikipedia mirror meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Telnet

@xor how about behind an activitypub server interfaced by sending posts to it

@xor I love the _idea_ of a tor onion service MUD, but I think in execution there's just not enough critical mass to make something like that viable today.

@ross I mean, it might be lonely, but it is very (technically) viable today!

@xor
Oh for sure. And don't get me wrong. *I* would be on there all the damn time.

@xor There’s a bit of a project at my makerspace for making a MUD that’s kind of themed after it, and might primarily be available on our makerspace local network. We haven’t gotten very far, but it’s a fun idea.

@brittag That was the sort of thing I was thinking! I love the idea

@xor @brittag We started a MUD of a coworking space I was part of several years ago, and it was a lot of fun even though it never became widely used
