So the effect is that it keeps the post relevant to people who follow me? Or relevant to everybody? Or is it like emptyquoting on a forum?

@x0ul Forward the toot to your timeline, and everybody following you... Possibly puts it on the public timelines of your instance, if it wasn't originally there? Not sure about that one.
