Consumerism has worked very hard, with the help of popular psychology (โ€˜Just do itโ€™) to convince people that indulgence is good for you, whereas frugality is self-oppression.

Just one of the many highlights from Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind by Yuval Noah Harari ๐Ÿ“š micro.blog/books/9780062316110

Physics works.

Many publications wonโ€™t allow me (or them) to cite even well-written Wikipedia pages/sections in articles but they happily link to tweets, and some even create entire stories out of a single tweet or two. ๐Ÿ™„

Future historians are going to have a good laugh at things like these.

The secret heart of academia is... Wikipedia.

In an experiment, this paper found that a single quality Wikipedia article written by chemistry experts influenced the content of 250 published peer-reviewed academic papers! Articles referenced in Wikipedia also become more cited.

Iโ€™ve now convinced 5 people to get a double-walled steel cup. Good stuff.

Why get a steel cup: personal.jatan.space/p/cup-of-
Or why I'm never going back to drinking things in ceramics or glass.

Learnt the word โ€œwoollyโ€ today. It means: Vague or confused in expression or character.

Days can be woolly, as a friend of mine likes to say.

A gentle reminder to my readers:

All my articles and newsletters are free
I donโ€™t display ads
I donโ€™t accept sponsors
I donโ€™t earn anything from half my work

Learnt the word โ€œBackgrounderโ€ today. It means: An official briefing or handout giving background information. ๐Ÿ“

Seems obvious in hindisght but didnโ€™t know the word officially existed.

Many people have asked me lately how do I publish so many articles every month. Over the years, Iโ€™ve developed a simple โ€YES and NO systemโ€ that reflects my priorities, and captures my life philosophy that keeps me productive. ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿš€ personal.jatan.space/p/yes-and

Really interesting essay on why Russians do not smile. Itโ€™s very important to consider cultural context in multi-ethnic conversations to avoid confusion or even conflict. ๐Ÿ“ chicagomaroon.com/2002/04/12/w

Someone working at a space company said these kind words for my Moon exploration newsletter ๐Ÿ“ and supported me via Patreon! ๐Ÿš€
