In an experiment, this paper found that a single quality Wikipedia article written by chemistry experts influenced the content of 250 published peer-reviewed academic papers! Articles referenced in Wikipedia also become more cited.
Many publications won’t allow me (or them) to cite even well-written Wikipedia pages/sections in articles but they happily link to tweets, and some even create entire stories out of a single tweet or two. 🙄
Future historians are going to have a good laugh at things like these.
