I never liked The Circle, but this interview makes me reconsider things (at least a bit). Still, they should have talked about Mastodon, so many of Eggers concerns solved! http://www.motherjones.com/media/2017/04/circle-movie-film-dave-eggers-james-ponsoldt-clive-thompson
Welp, I signed up for another "track your game collection" sort of service. This one seems to have improved a lot since I last looked at it, but my data import went a little sideways and it looks like I'll have to manually match a lot of games to their data. Also they seem to be missing some stuff.
Anyway, here's this mess of a list, if you care. It'll look better if/when I clean it up!
I just went around and did some basic nmap-ing on the most popular Mastodon instances, and there's some seriously sketchy stuff in there. I guess if you're just running a single-user instance for yourself, sure, but those are all 2000+ user instances.
Yo, @Gargron will there be an option to make a toot "local-only" and not go to federation? Might seem handy.
Researching authorship and ownership in digital culture(s). Teaching literary and cultural studies. Way too excited about things. I'm just this guy, you know.
