The phrase "early Internet" used to mean "the 1990s WWW." I'm starting to see it being used today to mean "the mid-2000s Web." No one ever seems to refer to the actual early Internet

2005 US: ha ha we have an Open Internet, unlike China and Australia
2018 US: here's my VPN for region-locked youtube, here's my VPN for sci-hub...

Her creations include most of the iconography and fonts which shipped with the original Macintosh, and many icons which persisted in Windows from version 3 until XP.

It's time to grade college projects again. I'm reflecting on the balance of grading. I want grades to instill confidence in students -- a grade should mean "you did this! Be proud!" But they also have to signal ways in which a student can improve. I especially want to do this with beginning tech classes, where I want them to feel good about working with tech while pointing to ways they can get better. That's a balance I don't know if I will ever achieve.

Some of my least favorite phrases: "We've redesigned our website! Let's take a tour..."

<<Billionaires like Bill Gates and Elon Musk assume that a superintelligent AI will stop at nothing to achieves its goals because that’s the attitude they adopted. (Of course, they saw nothing wrong with this strategy when they were the ones engaging in it; it’s only the possibility that someone else might be better at it than they were that gives them cause for concern.)>>
