89 degrees. Every Mr. Softee truck and Mr. Softee ripoff is swarming the streets for customers. I can't believe it's only May and yet I also can't believe it's already May.

Twitter: increasingly draconian attempts to wipe out third-party app ecosystem

Mastodon: someone made an app for mid-00's PDAs github.com/NattyNarwhal/Pocket (source: cronk.stenoweb.net/@calvin/999)

If this is the week I fully become disorganized, it would either just be insignificant or totally horrible. I'm hoping for the former.

I think an issue that federated services like peertube, Mastodon, and others have is that there's not one site you can can point to for people to join. If you want a friend to follow you on Twitter, even if they don't know about Twitter (somehow) you can just say go to Twitter.com. You can tell them features of it, tell them what to expect, how to navigate, etc. but with federated stuff it's kinda like "well, some places have these features, others don't but it's ok cause they can still see the different parts and they have their own unique features, they don't all look and act the same, good luck picking one" and that can be a bit overwhelming especially for non tech people

Ah, finally taking a break from panic to try to settle back into Mastodon. I guess I'll start with a plus and a minus.

Minus: I have some schoolwork, research and studying to do this weekend. Also, my pens broke.

Plus: I feel weirdly relaxed this afternoon and I'm going to relax with people that I like being around tonight so there's that.

As I've grown older I've learned that pleasing everyone is impossible, but pissing everyone off is a piece of cake.๐Ÿ˜€

I'm glad I'm not a meteorologist because the weather this week has been going up and down.

On the plus side, it'll be warm today. So finally spring weather, maybe.

If weโ€™re ever going to actually effect social change, weโ€™re going to need to provide home grown, community alternatives to the media produced by the entrenched power structures represented by these mega-corporations. We need to hit them at their bottom line, which means creating (and consuming) compelling community TV, Film, Games, Prose, Music, and other art.

I'm starting a new music playlist. Does anyone have any songs that they can recommend to me? I'm inclined towards rock and hip hop but I'm open to other genres.

Hello everyone who is new to Mastodon! Make sure you try and find some folks to follow who have been here for a long time. Don't make the mistake of just following folks joining right now or those you know from other places. Because many of these will leave soon, making you think this place is dead when in reality it's buzzing with activity. I've seen it happen too often with new social services and sites.

It's days like these where I miss reading the Village Voice. Maybe it's the red newstand boxes or the "nostalgia" of the front page art or actually reading the articles but I just feel sad about that.

noun
The state or condition of existing nowhere; non-existence.

Origin

Mid 17th century; earliest use found in John Wilkins (1614โ€“1672), theologian and natural philosopher. From post-classical Latin nullibi nowhere + -iety.

==========

I wonder if I will find nullibiety anywhere but here this week.
