"On 10 April, astrophysicists announced that they had captured the 1st ever image of a #blackhole.
Just 5 days later, the NSF rejected a grant to support that ecosystem, saying that the software lacked sufficient impact.
#opensource is widely acknowledged as crucially important in science, yet it is funded non-sustainably."
Tonight was the worst presentation I have given in years. My equipment didn’t work. We started twenty minutes late on loner equipment. I couldn’t do any of my examples. Embarrassing showing tonight. I hope to do way better next time. Can’t emphasize how nice it was to still hear positive comments from folks in the audience though even as I felt awful about it.
Explaining P99 to people is hard. Yes, I play on a red server. Yes, that means PVP. Yes. You can loose levels, platinum, and potentially even your equipment if you really screw up. Yes, it is dangerous. But why wouldn’t you play on a PVP server? Go hard or don’t go. #just30yearoldboomerthings
When designing a user interface, imagine some old woman using it, say Margaret Hamilton, and she's clicking your app's buttons and saying to you, as old people do,
"Young whippersnapper, when I was your age, I sent 24 people to the ACTUAL MOON with my software in 4K of RAM and here I am clicking your button and it takes ten seconds to load a 50 megabyte video ad and then it crashes
I'm not even ANGRY with you, I'm just disappointed."
I do talks on security and have a horrible track record with social media because I don’t like social media but I guess I need to use it so people know I exist.
