Alright, it's pretty clear there are no backups to be had on .xyz -- time stop hanging fire and get on with my migration to @rafial

@TheKinrar more than 24 hours after requesting a data export, it still says "compiling your archive". Wondering if queue involved is stalled?

Show thread

@mdhughes yeah I found a bug from a few years ago about the queue dying. But it it's 24 hours, I've still got a couple hours to go.

I'm beginning to suspect that "request archive" isn't working on mastodon.xyz

Hmm... "compiling your archive" does seem to take awhile.

Alright, here we go. I've been pondering moving my primary account to hackers.town for awhile, so it's time to push the button. Let's see how this goes...

The Mediocre Programmer

This book is about helping you along on the journey of being a mediocre programmer. Together we'll uncover some of common misconceptions we have about programming, failure, and growth and come to understand that the act of programming and development is something we undertake each day and improve in small ways. It's these small changes that over time transform us from being mediocre programmers into better programmers.

Lightly miffed at The New York Times to discover they recently quietly nearly doubled the monthly subscription cost I am paying with no apparent notification. I understand the importance of supporting journalism here and now, but deceptive marketing practices do make me grit my teeth

That moment when the bubbles of carbon dioxide effervescing off the top of your glass of tonic sound exactly like the Slack notification clatter as faintly heard from your headphones, discarded nearby on the desk

@vanicpanic Also, you don't necessarily need three estimates initially, the goal isn't to find the contractor who you'll ultimately hire, it's just to come up with a defensible number that can be attached to the value of what is being negotiated over.
