I’m still reading birdsite because if I stick to just Mastodon I have no idea what’s going on in the world. I follow 100+ people here but my feed is mostly the same 10 people. The local feed is mostly irrelevant to my interests and the federated is full of garbage 😐 I hope Mastodon takes off, but not TOO much, or it’ll be full of #Brands.

@afabulous I just use an RSS feed reader for my news. I get the info without the distraction. But I’m here for the interaction between people, not the same 100 people retweeting the same 100 news items over and over again. It clogs the feed and I waste time scrolling through and filtering out what I’ve already seen. All those news items come from websites, so I get my news from the source.

@ericvonfoerster yeah, I have Feedly, which I forget to look at, but there's something about the real time interaction I miss. I saw someone on here mentioning that google docs had a major security breach and all your docs were fucked (??) and I was like holy shit, I'd heard NOTHING about this all day. On Twitter I'd have known in 5 minutes.

@afabulous I use Newsify. But remembering to look at whatever app you use helps lol.
I like this version of real time interaction better, but you gotta do what works for you. Personally I hope this place never becomes like Twitter or Facebook, I left both for many reasons.

@ericvonfoerster for uspol stuff I subscribe to the wtfjht email, which is a great distillation of what the current dystopian regime is up to whatthefuckjusthappenedtoday.c

@ericvonfoerster also @phire has a good, brief, tinyletter which I lost the URL to

phire @phire

@afabulous @ericvonfoerster oh hey I missed this! It’s tinyletter.com/phire and today is a good day to sign up because there’s actually good news!!
