This idiot (me) takes the care to wear an FFP2 mask on the subway, but can't remember to wear a basic particulate mask when working with dusty building materials.

@automatist Oh my goodness, that's delightful! And those graphics!

My neighbours have an amazing sound system which tonight they're inexplicably using to play Nickelback. Finally, someone has surpassed the next-door dudes ten years ago whose party playlist always ended with Macy Gray's "I Try"

Late to the party, but I've gotten hooked on Wordle this week

covid -, quantified self

A side-amusement of having covid is that I get to do day-by-day symptom tracking. Useful for giving me perspective, and also apparently entertaining for the public health person who called to do source and contact training. I guess not everyone says "Hold on, let me look at my list" when asked about their symptoms πŸ˜…

covid, -

@garrett Judging by the symptoms, I'm not super hopeful for a false positive. But if it stays where it's currently at, then I'm getting off lightly.

covid, -

I was super excited that I was finally going to be allowed to sign up for my booster shot (the health minister goes on Twitter every day and announces which birth years are up, like some kind of public health Oprah), and then I got a positive result on a self-test. The only bit of good timing in this story is that we're in lockdown, so I'm not missing much by having to self-isolate at home.

I'm always bothered by the point in the year when I start filling in January meetings

And yes, I did just spell "Zeno" wrong, proving that I can't multi-task very well

Suffering from Xeno's paradox while waiting in a phone queue: "please stay on the line, you will be helped in 12 minutes...8...4...3..."

Beginning to really resent that everything is a computer. Watching boot screens on coffee machines makes me irrationally angry.

covid, self-testing

I do a self-test ~twice a week. The tests come through a centralized sourcing system for education, which provides different brands of test depending on availability. Today's test comes with a little papercraft stand to hold up the fluid vial. It's fun to see all the different variations people can make on the same basic product.

(The post was about my book, for the purposes of spamming my residual birdsite followers on the occasion of said book now being officially out: )

Discovered today by posting on birdsite for the first time in a couple years that I still have that account piped to mastodon.

I love having imperfect memories of childhood stories or anecdotes. On my mind today, a story I can't remember, with the (frequently repeated in my family) punchline: "Keep your fork, Duke, we're having pie."

@davidpetersonharvey Thanks! I can't claim responsibility for the design overall, but the picture is one of my own!

Author copies of my actual book arrived yesterday. Aaaaaaaaah!!! Also, squeeeee.

Bus drivers in Rotterdam seem to get to choose which music to play when they're driving. Getting some nice Dutch hiphop this morning as a result
