Google China Prototype Links Searches to Phone Numbers
What is omitted : ALL Google searches are *already* linked to strong identifiers (accounts and/or phone numbers). This time it is just impossible to pretend it won't be used for massive social control, intimidation and repression.
This is what #Google is about though, as its core business model is mass-surveillance.
At some point in the last few years, we have:
) Viewed you through a scrying pool and/or mirror
) Crafted a double of you from blood and willpower and used it to manipulate your moods and actions and/or
) Sunk into a dark liquid pool, then rose again to the surface but the surface was your eyes, through which we saw all you saw, thought as you thought, as intimate as breath.
Due to new legislation, now we have to ask:
Can we keep doing all that?
@ecrichlow I used to be enraged when I got business emails with “Iphone“, “i-phone”, “Ifone”, “I-pad”, etc.
The petulant reactions from some of the Linux/open-source community over what Linus Torvalds himself said about his own dickish behaviour and that of the community writ large isn't surprising at all.
I expected It to happen. It serves as a reminder that no matter what you do and no matter what *they* tell you, they're unwilling to change and unreasonable to boot.

The NPM folks can get a bit too granular in their modules: https://github.com/jonschlinkert/ansi-cyan
@thomasfuchs Also the Atari 1200XL: Coffee, cream, & chrome.
And TRS-80 Model 100, looked like The Future from 1960.
If you work with remote colleagues: check up on them semi-regularly.
It's easy to fall into a pattern of feeling that your work isn't helping anyone, or providing value.
#3 Atari 800 (1979)
An extremely pleasingly friendly yet futuristic design. Those yellow keys!
@thomasfuchs No list of computer aesthetics would be complete without the Pixar Image Computer.
👏 to this. My wife, mother, and mother in law are all primary school teachers. And I can tell you: the “school teachers have it easy because they finish work at 3 and get 12 weeks holiday a year” line is so utterly ignorant, it’s laughable.
In light of Dave Sharma’s comments about teachers working 3/4 of a full time job, it seems timely to share these calculations I did about my workload in 2014. #auspol https://lindamciver.wordpre…
Linux (!) just joined Apple, Microsoft, and Google in adopting the code of conduct I created, Contributor Covenant.
@andrewabernathy I switched to CARROT, mostly because Dark Sky’s watch extension is terrible.
Senior software developer. Used to be really smart.
