Help test, improve and join the global social network!

@nextcloud is there a demo instance that has Nextcloud Social installed I could test it out on?

I'm not yet a nextcloud user. Do I understand correctly that to use your social app, I would first need to deploy a nextcloud server, which I could do with one of your listed providers, or buy a nextcloud device, and then I could install your social app on it?

Did I miss anything?

@bhaugen That's correct, it's an addon to make nextcloud talk to the fediverse

@bhaugen @nextcloud Yes, install Nextcloud server (Version 15), install the Social app in it, and use it. Version 0.1.3 has been released. Following and get followed works, as well searching for a user, and have conversations.

> Peertube, Pleroma, Friendica and soon Diaspora are part of this same network

It seems that diaspora* will not support ActivityPub soon.
Moreover it seems to be a framework and not an application protocol, so it does not guarantee interoperability between applications.

@nextcloud I would like to try the federation features of Nextcloud. Don't exactly know how to do that, though.

@nextcloud Awesome news! Have #nextcloud serverband just recently installed #mastodon instance, looking forward to try out integrations 👍 #opensource

@nextcloud Upgraded server to v15 and enabled Social app. It works! So cool, #fediverse rocks 👍#opensource

@nextcloud I really like Nextcloud but instead of rolling out feature after feature you should make Nextcloud reachable through the Android Nextcloud App via IPv6. This core function should work flawlessly before you do anything else in my opinion...

@nextcloud !gnusocial citizens? Are you sure?

I like !nextcloud but I believe that needs #activitypub to that kind of federation.
@colegota @nextcloud I really like #Nextcloud but I think they should concentrate on what they're already doing. I would like to see less core errors, Group folder and Circles improvements, Improved UI, and Ferederated richdocument editing mjuch more than a fediverse add on. Moreover, a Nextcloud server can become an important, 24/7 service for a organization that uses it so I'd definitely think twice before enabling the Fediverse app.
@nextcloud >The Mastodon project is excited that Nextcloud users can now join the fediverse, potentially growing the decentralized web by an order of magnitude

to clarify, does this mean @gargron assisted in making this happen, or that you pulled code from mastodon (or a combination of the two)?
