So please make self hosting easier. The installation instructions shouldn't assume you're a sysadmin or know anything about obscure packages. That should be in the expert section.

@eladhen @nextcloud yes we need solutions for the average computer user who has a life outside of this screen.

@eliasg @eladhen @nextcloud I stopped using systems like Nextcloud because of the administrative and server overheads when I just wanted an iCal and Contacts host.

Leaner tools would likely be very welcome.

You can use NextCloud without self-hosting.

There are many sites that let you sign up for a NextCloud account just like you would sign up for Google Drive or DropBox:

The fact is, setting up self hosting can be streamlined. If you install Mail in a Box self hosted server it sets up a Nextcloud server for you via a script. We can point out the fact that it is possible and that it needs to be simpler to self host.

@eladhen @nextcloud is NextcloudPi an option? It runs on a few types of hardware & is pretty easy to setup I have it running on an odroid HC1,but it takes care of everything from security and automated maintenance for you here is the website.

Its a bolt on for Nextcloud to make Nextcloud more accessible to non sys-admin people.
The instructions are pretty easy to follow as well to get up and running and are improving everyday .

It's good to know that this exists. I myself have nextcloud on a cloud server. I couldn't figure how to install it, but when I installed Mail in a Box, a self hosted mail server with very easy to follow instructions, it just went and installed Nextcloud for me through a script with no need for me to do anything, which makes me think that most of the denseness of the Nextcloud instructions are probably not necessary.

@nextcloud I'm kind of not surprised...thanks for the warning! I use nextcloud since last year. Thanks for all your great work!
