How do people feel about the lack of DMs on here? Is it needed? Are we better off without them?
So apparently direct messaging is implemented in the privacy level of the Toot. If you set a toot from "Public" to "Direct" it automatically becomes a DM (and you can't retoot/boost it) ☄️✨
@mttpgn how do you specify who sees it, though? I.e. direct it at a specific person?
@mttpgn nm, seeing that 'direct' and a mention posts to a specific person. Seems kind of creepy?
@mttpgn Email exists for DMs, works well, and can be encrypted. No need to bake those features in to a social service.
@mttpgn I mean, the Direct privacy setting is effectively DMs, just a different set up
@mttpgn I feel that you can click the globe and switch your posting privacy to "Private."
@mttpgn I suppose the selective posting takes care of them?
@mttpgn I need less inboxes to to check so I am GLAD there are no DMs if I want DMs I can add one of the 500 other networks I am already a member of.
@mttpgn never use SM in twitter because I am too paranoid = lack of e2e encryption. Signal > DM
@mttpgn Ehhh. At this point, I've decided that anything I construct digitally will be public at some point, so I've given up on privacy.
@mttpgn When I use DM, it's usually an engagement with a service help desk. For clients, I insist upon email/phone, and for friends – usually we email. I am old! ;)
@mttpgn I don't think it's THAT necessary. there are always other outlets/ways to do that.
