Debian isn't considered by the FSF as a Free Software Operating System because, while it's by default running with zero proprietary software, the user can *opt-in* to install non-free software.

Whoa, you can't even have the liberty to use your computer the way you want with the FSF.

That's kind of the reason I don't use Trisquel or anything like that. If the system won't let me use a program because it isn't free software, then it's me, the user that isn't free. Reminds me of macOS or Windows in some way.

@mrtino That's so dumb but well, FSF is kinda a church anyway.
@mrtino
>you can't even have the liberty to use your computer the way you want with the FSF.
>If the system won't let me use a program because it isn't free software, then it's me, the user that isn't free
This is inaccurate.
The FSF does not consider debian to be a free distro because it adds simple mechanisms to add non-free software, for example yes the linux kernel does not have the non-free binaries but it's compiled to be able to use them.
The difference between Trisquel and debian (except from being ubuntu based) is that that layer of simplicity of adding non-free software is removed. If you want to install non-free software you can, there's no magic that will stop you from doing that but you'll have to learn how to do it....or just use a ppa.

@mrtino Mouuuuuaiiiiiis...

@postroutine @mrtino @marsxyz @djayroma

@mrtino Well, funny that they just put non-free for gentoo, but well there is no default kernel. :D
@rms Install Gentoo and put ACCEPT_LICENCES="-* @FREE" (it’s in the handbook)
