Hi! I'm a "design technologist" which means I learned to code in art school.
I was an animator for a long time – web, tv, film, video games, the works. Now I work with maps, models, metaphors, and other interfaces.
Mostly this means I make prototypes for navigating abstruse data structures, and dumb jokes online.
I live on the edge of the woods by the sea. For fun I get in over my head. To get my attention, say "teashop on a tugboat."
@meetar interesting background! Where can I see some of your work?
@jppullen well let's see – I've worked on cartoons for Sesame Street and Yo Gabba Gabba, boogers in Mucinex commercials, cutscenes on Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto, and made about half a dozen consumer products do the moonwalk – but the most famous thing I've worked on is the third Matrix movie :D
@meetar I’ve always appreciated the Mucinex boogers. Very underrated in snot lore.
What about maps? That’s where you hooked me.
@jppullen Ah! I did graphics work for an open source mapping company for a few years, mostly around terrain representation. My thoughts on the matter are archived here: http://fjord.style/
@meetar "maps, models, metaphors, and other interfaces" — i love that!
@kayserifserif thanks! nice to meet you! I enjoyed your last blog post, it felt extremely relatable.
@meetar thank you for reading! :)
