every good joke i've ever come up with has been immediately followed by a mild panic attack about where i could've subconsciously stolen it from

@marko "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.". I would not sweat it.

@Thehatter I try not to, but sometimes a day or two later I'll be like "ah it was just these two jokes smushed together" or "ah that was just me doing this one comedian's bit in this other person's comedic voice"

so it is sort of necessary due diligence to keep me from being grossly self-satisfied over what's basically just a deep well of references

@marko It is hard, so much of what is in the general consensus has been created by others. How many cat videos or memes are there on the Internet posted by as many number of people.

Unless you are selling a book as original or doing stand up comedy, you should be ok with the unintentional joke reuse.

@marko when I was little and said clever things, my mom would always ask where I'd read them and not believe me when I said I'd made them up. It took me years to realize I could be clever all on my own.

@DialMforMara aw that's awful, though personally I have always been the kind of person, especially as a kid, who'd get really into a book and end up kind of involuntarily thinking/talking like the people in it for a week or two after

@marko I think I've always done that, but am more aware of it now.
