mobile.co discourse Show more
Just a reminder that the big hype around mobile.co among far-right types isn't just that it openly welcomes them (there have been several sites built for that), but that it can also get their bullshit out to people who AREN'T fascists via federation
Don't let that happen. They're relying on admins and users giving them the benefit of the doubt. Ask your instance mods to defederate and, failing that, mute them

@socalledunitedstates And https://honey.church is apparently of similar vein too.
re: mobile.co discourse Show more
@kaniini @mareklach @socalledunitedstates how are they not the same? they're both hate groups
re: mobile.co discourse Show more
@vantablack @kaniini @socalledunitedstates Never wrote that they're the same. And of course any decision is on the admins, I am usually against instance blocking, but some instances, like mobile.co, can damage the whole public image of the fediverse. HOWEVER,
After further investigation of the term MOGAI, especially the way it's missused, I do concede that honey.church isn't a bad instance, which was (turns out incorrectly) pointed out to me when I tooted about it normally
Generalistic and moderated instance. All opinions are welcome, but hate speeches are prohibited. Users who don't respect rules will be silenced or suspended, depending on the violation severity.

no. and it's dangerous to equate them.
there's reasons why both may be undesirable in specific settings, and instance admins will need to make their own decisions on that, but the reasons for that are completely different.
mobile.co is an alt-right politics-oriented instance.
honey.church is an LGBT instance which do not accept certain segments of the queer community (the people who want to replace LGBTQIA+ acronym with MOGAI, notably).
by equating the two together, you lead people to make bad moderation decisions. instance admins need accurate data in order to make good moderation decisions.
to say that you should block two instances for being the same, which in reality, have completely different rationales for why one may want to block them is intellectually dishonest and a disservice to the fediverse admin community.
finally, admins should always look at activity on instances and draw your own conclusions, instead of just going on suggestions, this post is an example of why that is -- the information is defective.
mastodon instances have a third-party timeline viewer (http://www.unmung.com/mastoview) which works in most cases and pleroma instances can be viewed publicly without any special tools in most cases.
