Apart from 2 things:
1) it's from Microsoft, so it's a festering turd of a software (not originally theirs, but neither was Skype --and we know how well Skype works today)
2) as every Microsoft product, it "is optimised" to work in a Microsoft environment.

Been there myself.
Do not despair. A little cynicism goes a long way.
Like: you have 1+ year of guaranteed work at the least.
Second, which is why so many it managers have made a career out of it: Microsoft is about lock-in. I.e., it's all about tips&tricks, configuration secrets, upgrades and so on and so forth. Your boss will *never* be into any of that. But if you become "the CRM go-to" person, you'll have a job for life.

I agree. If there is one reason to have you lead this other project is exactly because you were involved in the other one, it's called experience. Which apparently is never a prerequisite to become a pointy-haired boss à la Dilbert
