If my #raspberrypi knock-off is starting to smell of melting plastic, and it has lost USB function, that probably means it's for decoration only now, right? Time to replace? Or is there a chance that I could just desolder the thing that's overheating and keep using it over SSH?
The firefly-rk3399 looks awesome. Cost like $250 though.
Why a Pi Knock off and not a PI? Also, the do make cases with fans for the Pi's. - I hear the guys on the Mini PC Show talk about different types of boards.

Perhaps if you were to msg one of them?
I don't have anything other than Pi's at the moment, so I don't have any 1st hand experiences.
@randynose The Pi's main chip is not open hardware. Since there are boards out there that are open hardware, I'd like to opt for them.
It's not technically a hard requirement, just something since I have the luxury of choosing, I'd like to have. It's not like I'm actually going to use the hardware's openness, but I like to support open.
@klaatu @randynose sifive makes a neat little board with a RISC-V chip... just saying...
Shameless plug:

@h4ck3r9 @randynose Oh, very cool! thanks!
@klaatu What is its intended use? I have some suggestions but need more info.
@kelbot This one actually needs to be a general purpose computer. Enlightenment desktop, wired network, some Lua and Python coding. That sort of thing.
@klaatu
Gotcha. My suggestions would be Pi 3B+, Odroid C2, Libre Computer Le Potato, Odroid XU4 if you want more power.
@ddipaola @klaatu I'm ordering an Olimex ARM-USB-TINY-H hardware JTAG for another project. You might look at a krktl Snickerdoodle if you want some FPGA with it or the i.MX6 Rex if you want to design your own board... Sorry I'm super into making things complicated and expensive https://www.digikey.com/en/product-highlight/c/crowd-supply/snickerdoodle-zynq-7000-prototype-to-production-platform http://www.imx6rex.com
@klaatu
My Chromebook's battery seems to be failing, and it supports Libreboot, so...
If you want fast delivery, and lots of power, go down to PB Tech and get a TinkerBoard.
@klaatu That's one Pi been left in the oven too long.
@gws A few more action movie one-liners and you're gonna be unstoppable.
Nevermind. Found out the answer. CANNOT just remove the overheating part and still have a functional device.
So, suggestions for a good ARM board? #beagleboard ? pine? what's a good #open #arm board these days?
